It’s Birchbox time, but this is not one of the regular monthly boxes. I got an e-mail a few weeks ago from Birchbox letting me know that about $50 worth of my points would be expiring. Confession: I’m kind of a Birchbox point hoarder. It’s not that I forget that I have them, it’s that I’m really indecisive about what I want to use them on. A lot of times, I’ll have a specific item that I’m saving up for to spend them on, but sometimes there really isn’t anything on my “must-have” list. This was one of those times, so I decided to treat myself and just get some totally for-fun items. Even with that in mind, it took me forever to pick all the stuff you see here. I’m so whishy washy when it comes to ordering beauty products online. But, I did get over it and the mail man brought me a box of goodies today. I am really impressed by the turn around. I placed the order on June 3rd and all of this came today, June 5th. That is just awesome. It’s almost as awesome as the fact that I did not spend a cent on any of this because I cashed in my points and Birchbox was offering free shipping on all orders over $35.
On to the goodies!
The first thing I ordered is Mox Botanicals Bath Milk in Rose Petal. I had a Mox bath milk sample from the limited edition snow day box Birchbox put out in December and I loved it. There are two bath milk sachets in the box and you just place the sachet into your hot bath or you can cut open the sachet and let the rose petals float freely around you. I am looking forward to a relaxing spa night at home with one of these. ($12)
Next up is a stila lip glaze in lychee. I am a lip gloss girl through and through. I don’t wear a lot of make up, so I always feel like lip sticks are too harsh on me. I’ve never had a stila lip glaze before, but I know people rave about them, so I decided to grab one. Lychee is a really subtle, shimmery coral pink. It adds shine and pinks up my lips a little, but isn’t too pigmented. I also love the way you apply these, by twisting up the product to the brush tip. This is a glaze, so it is sticky, but like I said I am a gloss girl, so that doesn’t bother me. ($8)
The next thing I got is really just for fun. I ordered a Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in Nila. I sampled a Sumita eyeliner in black in my April box and loved the formula. These pencils are soft and waxy and go on so smooth. There is no tugging of sensitive eye skin. I ordered Nila, which is a gorgeous, highly pigmented cornflower or periwinkle blue. I just thought this would be perfect for spring and potentially for a fun pop of color on my lids, maybe even a winged eyeliner look. ($11)
I also ordered a Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Endless Summer. This polish is part of a new collection called The Endless Summer Collection. It features this color, which is a metallic, shimmery dusty rose, a metallic blue, and a metallic nude. I thought about ordering the trio, but I own so many blue polishes and I didn’t see myself using the nude shade, so I just went for the pink. It is so beautiful for summer and Ruffian nail lacquers are amazing. All you need is one coat for full coverage. I know this will be on my nails a lot this summer. ($11)
The next item was a total impulse buy and is the only thing I bought that I actually need. I bought ILLUME oversized matches in Anemone. These are actually scented matches, which I know, is crazy. I was actually attracted to them because they are oversized matches, which I like so my fingers don’t get singed while I’m trying to light candles that have burned down a lot. Anemone is supposed to smell like citrus, apple, clove, and patchouli. I also thought the box they come in was really cute.
The rest of the things I got are all from the Birchbox bonus shop. Always check out what they’re offering in the bonus shop because they do offer really great samples and products for free with qualifying purchases. For most of them, you do have to spend a certain amount of money or buy certain brands. Right now, Birchbox is offering a free shashi sam bracelet with any $35 purchase. You can see it in the swatch picture above, or follow that link. It’s a really delicate bracelet, a riff on friendship bracelets you might have made as a kid with thread. The one I got is a really cute combo of pink embroidery thread, gold, pale green, pale blue, and black and white beads. It’s super delicate. I was actually surprised by how delicate it is, so I’m not counting on it lasting a long time. Still, it’s adorable and fun. It retails for $23, so being able to get it for free just for making a $35 purchase is really awesome.
I also threw in a mystery sample pack. These are free with any $35 purchase or you can pay $10 for one on it’s own (though, I don’t think it’s worth $10). Basically, Birchbox gives you two random samples with your purchase and they differ for everyone. I got a sample of Viva la Juicy perfume, which I really like. I’ve had samples of it from Birchbox before and love the scent, but the full size is a bit pricey for me. I also got a really big sample of Keims Hair Care Peppermint and Macadamia shampoo. Fun fact: I love shampoo samples, but I’m actually really picky about shampoos. I love them because I like trying new things and seeing if anything can beat the drugstore brand I buy, but I love them even more because they inevitably can’t compare to my favorite shampoo and then I have a ton of free shave gels. Shampoo and conditioner make fantastic shave gels and creams. This one smells really good. The peppermint is very subtle. This shampoo is supposed to stimulate hair growth and nourish weak hair. Plus it’s all natural, which is always great.
So that’s my Birchbox shop haul and like I said, this whole purchase did not cost me a cent. That is how amazing Birchbox’s point system is. Really, it cannot be beat and they’ve got such a great selection of products in their shop. With this purchase and my actual subscription box coming later this month, I’m going to have double the Birchbox happy in June!
