I am all about the self-serve frozen yogurt trend. I got spoiled by Yogurt Tap in Decatur, which was the first self-serve yogurt store to open in the city (though I think there are something like 4 or 5 unique yogurt places now). When I moved to Evanston in 2012, the only yogurt option was Red Mango, which is…meh. It’ll do in a pinch, but it’s not as awesome and it’s not self-serve, which I think is half the fun. You get to choose just how much of whatever you want and that’s what you pay for. When I moved down to Hyde Park last year, the yogurt option was a local store called Zberry, which is super small and typically only has a couple flavors. It does fine in a pinch, but the real gem of the Chicago froyo scene is Forever Yogurt. I was introduced to the location on Chicago Avenue in the Streeterville / Gold Coast neighborhood in the summer of 2012 by a classmate. Our downtown campus is only about a five minute walk away and one night, when class got out early, we wound up there. Forever Yogurt is the best because they have so many options. Seriously, check out their website – so many flavors! Obviously they don’t have all these flavors on sale all the time, but they rotate them out pretty regularly. Yesterday was an absolutely stunning day. High temperatures in the mid 60s, sun shining and a light breeze blowing. So what could be better than a frozen yogurt treat before class? Nothing. I went with a mix of cake batter and dutch chocolate yogurt, chocolate cookie dough pieces, coconut, cherries, and strawberry boba. Perfect for a treat while I walked around the lake. I suppose I could have made this a healthier treat by just getting fresh fruit on top (they always have plenty) but where is the fun in that?
